I love Jamie Lee Curtis. I’ve grown up watching her movies, I love Laurie Strode, and she deserves the recognition but this ain’t it. Angela Bassett and Stephanie Hsu did far better performances and this win just further proves Hollywood bias, award season is all about campaigning and Jamie Lee’s people did the most work.
Jamie Lee’s parents, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, are seen in gif one at the 33rd Academy Awards where they jointly presented the Oscars for Documentary (Feature) and Documentary (Short Subject). Janet was nominated that year in the Best Supporting Actress category for her work in Psycho (1960), losing to Shirley Jones for Elmer Gantry. Tony was previously nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award for his work in the 1958 drama The Defiant Ones, losing to David Niven for Separate Tables. Tony and Janet were never nominated again, and they sadly divorced in 1962 after eleven years together. The 1961 Academy Awards was one of their last public appearances as a couple. This was Jamie Lee’s first Oscar nomination after a career she embarked on in 1977 when she was nineteen years old.
